FUE takes healthy follicles from the back and sides of the scalp — the zone that androgenetic hair loss does not reach — one follicular unit at a time, using a punch of 0.8 to 1.0mm. Nothing is cut and nothing is stitched. Each extraction leaves a dot under a millimetre across, and a short growth of surrounding hair covers it. Because every graft is taken individually, the result depends almost entirely on the hand doing the extraction and the speed at which the follicles reach the recipient site.

Photographs before you fly

Send photographs of the front, crown and donor area on WhatsApp with a short description of how the loss has progressed. A preliminary opinion and a realistic graft range come back before you commit to travel. The final plan is set in person on the day.

Diagnosis on the day

Transplant, medical treatment or both are decided at diagnosis — the two are not alternatives.

Design and operation by the director

Consultation, design, extraction, implantation and micropigmentation are carried out by Dr. Kim. There is no delegated or nurse-performed surgery, and no second operator you have not met.

Aftercare to a year

Pre-operative precautions, post-operative precautions, a foam shampoo method and a scheduled programme to one year are given to every surgical patient in writing.

Is DHI Hair Korea a separate clinic?

No. It is the English-language hair transplant page of MONARA Dermatology Clinic, 5F, Suites 503–506, 15 Nonhyeon-ro 171-gil, Apgujeong, Seoul. Consultation, treatment and surgery take place there, with Dr. Kim Dae-woo.

How is the price decided?

By follicular unit. The tariff is published on the pricing page in bands from 1,000 to 3,000 follicular units, with a separate multiplier for non-shaven work, so you can see the figure before you arrive. The exact band is confirmed at the consultation.

How long do I need to be in Korea?

The operation is one day. The clinic sees surgical patients again the following day for wound check, dressing and the shampoo demonstration, so two nights is the practical minimum. Staying to the one-week check is better if your schedule allows it.

Will people be able to tell?

The donor area can be left unshaven, in which case there is nothing to see at the back from day one. At the recipient site, small crusts are present and are removed gradually from about day ten. Hats can be worn immediately — a bucket hat, hiking cap, bandana or hood, resting rather than gripping. Baseball caps and beanies are not suitable.
